Application Form for Cancellation, Reduction, Refund of Property Taxes in Accordance with Section 357/358 of the Municipal Act, 2001

This form must be fully completed for your application to be considered.

The deadline for submitting an application under Section 357 is February 28 of the calendar year following the year which is being appealed.  An application under Section 358 must be filed between March 1 and December 31 of the current tax year, and the application shall indicate to which year or preceding years it is to apply.

Representatives or Agents making requests on behalf of a principal must submit a letter of authorization signed by the principal in order to validate their application.

Mandatory details related to your application must be attached: pictures, insurance report, demolition permit, construction permit, repair/renovation permit, invoices, fire department report, and any additional information along with copies of related documents to support your appeal must be provided.

The Town may require further information at a later date in order to complete and process your request.

Application Process

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville will provide information about your application to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) to confirm the application details. The Tax Analyst in the Revenue and Taxation Department receives and reviews each application, then forwards the information to MPAC to obtain revised assessment information. MPAC may conduct a property inspection.

Upon receipt of the revised assessment information, Revenue and Taxation staff will review, approve and calculate the tax cancellation/reduction amount.

The information on this form is collected under the authority of section 357 of the Municipal Act, 2001 and it will be used only for the purpose of determining eligibility for the cancellation, reduction, or refund of property taxes and the amount of the cancellation, reduction, or refund in respect of applicable real properties. Questions about the collection of personal information should be directed to the Manager, Revenue and Taxation.
